IPL 2023 MI Vs GT qualifier 2: Shubman Gill’s thunderous century glide Titans to finals


Defending champions Gujarat Titans once again reached the finals of Indian Premier League by defeating the 5-time champions Mumbai Indians by 62 runs in a do-or-die qualifiers. Now they will clash with 4-time IPL champions Chennai Super Kings on Sunday at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. 

Playing against the 5-time Indian Premier League champions — Mumbai Indians — to confirm its seat in the finals, defending champions Gujarat Titans on 26 May scored a gigantic score of 233 runs after losing 3 wickets in 20 overs.

The match being played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad is the second qualifier which will decide who will play finals of Tata IPL 2023 against the 4-time IPL champions Chennai Super Kings on May 28 at the same venue.

After winning the toss, Mumbai Indian skipper Rohit Sharma elected to field first, that didn’t give a result as was expected by Sharma, all thanks to Gujarat Titans’s star batter Shubman Gill who played a thunderous innings and scored 129 runs in just 60 balls. He hit 7 fours and 10 sixes with a strike rate of 215.

By the time Shubman was sent back to the pavilion by Akash Madhwal in the last ball of 17th over, GT had already touched 192 runs after losing 2 wickets.

This was Gill’s third century of IPL 2023 for Gujarat Titans, which he completed in just 43 balls and what a time he has chosen to score a century.

Shubman Gill (851) has become the only the 3rd batter in IPL history after Virat Kohli and Jos Buttler to score 800 runs in a season.

Following his century, netizens have started comparing the 23-year-old with cricket legends Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli.

Meanwhile, apart from Gill, Sai Sudharsan scored 43 runs in 31 balls before being retired hurt. By the end of 20 overs, GT scored a massive 233 runs after losing 3 wickets.

For MI, only Akash Madhwal and Piyush Chawla could pick up one wickets each.

MI Innings:

Chasing the monstrous target of 234 runs, the batting was not upto the point. Apart from Suryakumar Yadav (61), Tilak Verma (43) and Cameron Green (30), no other batter could stand strong in front of GT bowlers.

The team collapsed in just 18.3 over and could score 171 runs, thereby losing the qualifier to GT by 62 runs. For GT, Mohit Sharma picked 5 wickets, Mohammed Shami and Rashid Khan took 2 wickets each, while Josh Little clinched one.
