IPL 2023 PBKS vs DC: Prabhsimran Singh, Harpreet Brar keep Kings’ hope for playoffs alive


Shikhar Dhawan-led Punjab Kings on Saturday defeated Delhi Capitals by 31 runs.

With a hope to get into the playoffs of the Indian Premier League, Punjab Kings on 13 May took on Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.

After winning the toss, Delhi Capitals skipper David Warner elected to field first.

Batting first, Shikhar Dhawan-led Punjab Kings gave DC a target of 168 to chase, which the latter couldn’t and lost by 31 runs.

Punjab Kings Innings:

When openers Prabhsimran Singh and skipper Shikhar Dhawan entered the field to set a high scoring target, it spectators were cheering up in the stadium.

However, in the second over only Ishant Sharma showed Dhawan (7) the way to pavilion. Following this, the batting order collapsed, as Sharma departed Liam Livingstone (4) in the 5th over.

Then Axar Patel dismissed Jitesh Sharma (5) in the 6th over. Following this, Sam Curran (20) arrived, but he too couldn’t do much and Praveen Dubey took his wicket in the 15th over.

Harpreet Brar (2) and M Shahrukh Khan (2) were dismissed in the following overs.

However, like a wall Prabhsimran Singh kept his hitting mode on a scored a century. He scored 103 runs in 65 ball at a strike rate of 158.46. But Mukesh Kumar dismissed him in the 19th over. By the end of 20 overs, PBKS managed to put 167 runs at a loss of 7 wickets.

For DC, Ishant Sharma took two wickets, while Axar Patel, Praveen Dubey, Kuldeep Yadav and Mukesh Kumar clinched one each.

DC Innings:

Chasing a target of 168 runs in 20 overs is not a big deal. Keeping this mindset, openers David Warner and Phil Salt built a good partnership.

And then the PBKS bowling attack started changing the direction of the match. Harpreet Brar first knocked Salt (21) down in the 7th over and then too Manish Pandey (0) and Warner (54) in the 9th over. Prior to that Rahul Chahar picked the wicket of Mitchell Marsh (3) in the 8th over.

With this, the Delhi Capitals’ batting order collapsed. Aman Hakim Khan (16) and Praveen Dubey (16) were dismissed by Nathan Ellis in the 16th and 18th over.

By the end of 20 overs, DC could hardly manage to score 136 runs after losing 8 wickets and lost by 31 runs.

For PBKS, Harpreet Brar took 4 wickets, while Nathan Ellis and Rahul Chahar picked 2 wickets each.

With this win, PBKS has kept the hope for playoff alive, as it is in the 6th spot in the IPL points table with 12 points. While DC last lost its chance in this IPL season after losing 8 matches. It is in the last spot.
