ICC Cricket World Cup schedule to be announced during WTC Final: BCCI Secretary Jay Shah

BCCI secretary Jay Shah on Saturday revealed that the schedule and venues for the upcoming ODI World Cup will be unveiled on the sidelines of World Test Championship (WTC) final. India and Australia will play the WTC Final between June 7-12 at the Oval in London.

Speaking on the media after the BCCI special general meeting in Ahmedabad, Shah said, “The venues for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 will be decided at a press conference during the ICC World Test Championship Final. The complete schedule for the tournament will also be revealed,”

According to ESPNCricinfo, the ICC Cricket World Cup will be held in India between October 5 and November 19 this year. The World Cup is expected to feature 48 matches in 12 venues including Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Dharamsala, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, Indore, Rajkot and Mumbai and Trivandrum.

Jay Shah also revealed that each BCCI office bearer will be responsible for a single venue for the World Cup. The Indian cricket board is looking at metro cities as possible venues for the upcoming World Cup.

BCCI will also form committees for the 2023 World Cup and Women’s Premier League in the coming week. A committee to draft the BCCI’s new POSH (Prevention of Sexual Harassment) policy is also expected to be announced soon.

Future of Asia Cup 2023 to be decided at ACC meeting:

Jay Shah also revealed that a meeting of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) will be conducted to look into Pakistan’s suggestion of a hybrid model for hosting the Asia Cup 2023. With India reluctant to travel to Pakistan, PCB had suggested hosting 4 of the 13 matches in Pakistan while the rest of the matches could be held at neutral venues.

Speaking about the 2023 Asia Cup, Jay Shah said, “The future of the Asia Cup 2023 will be decided once we have a meeting with the ACC members (Test playing nations) and the Associate nations,”

“Two or three countries sent in their views, which will be discussed formally at the ACC meeting in the next ten days.” Shah added
